Affirmed (1975 – 2001) was the 11th horse to claim the Triple Crown of U.S. thoroughbred racing. He won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes in 1978. After this, no other horse repeated this feat until 2015 when American Pharoah became the 12th Triple Crown champion, thus ending a 37-year period without any Triple Crown wins.

Affirmed raced for three years and was highly successful throughout his racing career. He won a total of 14 Grade I stakes and received multiple awards. He is also famous for his rivalry with Alydar, whom the raced against ten-time, including all the Triple Crown races.

In his racing career, Affirmed earned $2,393,818 in prize money, becoming the first thoroughbred in North American to bring in more than $2 million in prize money.

Affirmed became a successful stud who sired over 80 stakes winners, including horses such as Flawlessly, North America´s grass course champion in 1992 and 1993, and Peteski, who captured the Canadian Triple Crown.

In 2001, Affirmed was euthanized after developing a very serious case of laminitis. He was buried at Jonabell Farm wearing the flamingo pink colours of Harbor View Farm.
